Travel Guide - Flowers Cottage is a beautifully renovated, heritage-listed miners cottage only a few minutes walk away from the beach. It is fully self-contained and accommodates six people luxuriously. Catherine Hill Bay, fondly referred to as "Catho" by the locals, is only one hour from Hornsby, Sydney, and half an hour from Newcastle. It is an old coal mining town (suppling the coal to Sydney in the old days) with about 100 original miners cottages; many of them in almost original state. Catherine Hill Bay is one of the only two villages in New South Wales that are listed on the State Heritage Register. The area provides both pristine beach and unspoilt bush environments. The ocean beach is a short stroll away and Lake Macquarie is a couple of minutes by car. There's good fishing as well as the famous swimming, surfing, boating and bush walking opportunities. ...
