Travel Guide - In the pretty seaside town of American River, you will find some of the best-tasting Pacific Oysters in the world! The Oyster Farm Shop is the farm-gate outlet for Kangaroo Island Shellfish located just across the road. We shuck our fresh oysters daily when in season (around April to January). This is not a restaurant, cafe or fish and chip shop, it is a unique farm-gate experience! The Oyster Farm Shop also showcases Kangaroo Island's aquaculture and sustainable seafood products including Abalone, Abalini, Marron, King George Whiting and Southern Rock Lobster (when available). Try a free tasting of our mouth-watering Sheoak Smoked Oysters, tasty Kangaroo Island Kilpatrick Sauce and delectable Smoked Oyster Dip. A delicious yet simple takeaway lunch menu based around the island's Aquaculture produce is available from 11am to 2.30pm and we also have a range of 'Eat Like An Islander' Recipe Postcards to enable visitors to easily prepare a feast of island produce back at their accommodation.
